Who builds HOA Board Minutes
Doug McLain is the founder of HOA Fiscal and HOA Board Minutes and a partner in Dynamite Management, LLC. He has provided audit, management and tax services to homeowner and condominium associations for more than 20 years. Before Dynamite Management he was a partner in C.O.R.E. Services, LLC, a firm that audited and prepared tax returns for associations across the United States, and he participates in the Oregon and Washington chapters of Community Associations Institute (CAI).
He is a co-author of Trade HOA Stress for Success: A Guide to Managing Your HOA in a Healthy Manner (2014, with Richard Thompson and Erik Wecks), a board of directors' guide to running an association.
HOA Board Minutes came out of the same observation that produced HOA Fiscal: boards were being asked to follow meeting statutes that nobody had explained to them, and the minutes they kept would not have survived a records request. The software structures the meeting the way the statute expects, and the guides explain each state's rules in plain language with the section cited.
Three companies, one team
HOA Board Minutes, HOA Fiscal and Dynamite Management are run by the same people from Vancouver, Washington. They are three ways of solving the same problem, depending on how much of the work a board wants to do itself.
Meeting software, part of HOA Fiscal. Agendas, motions, approved minutes and free templates.
Minutes template ›The full platform: fund accounting, owner payments, budgets, meetings, elections, violations, work orders, reserves and resale certificates for self-managed associations.
hoafiscal.com ›The managed service. Dynamite prepares the financial statements, collects assessments, pays vendors and files Form 1120-H for associations in any state, remotely, while the board keeps running the community.
dynamitemanagement.com ›How the guides on this site are written
The guides cover the statutes that govern HOA board meetings, minutes, notice, executive sessions and records, state by state. Every guide follows the same rules:
- Statute claims are checked against the official text. Each state's rules are verified on the state legislature's own site before publication, and the guide cites the section it relies on so a board can read the source.
- Every guide is dated. Posts show their publication date and, when revised, the date of the last update. Meeting laws change every session; a guide that is out of date is corrected, not left standing.
- Nothing here is advice for a specific association. The guides are general information. A board facing a specific legal question should consult an attorney licensed in its state.
Corrections are welcome: write to info@hoafiscal.com with the page and the section you believe is wrong, and it will be reviewed against the source.
